Challenges for the Catholic Intelligentsia in the Post-Secular Age of Central Europe

After the political turning point 1989/91 in Central and Eastern Europe started and restarted some Catholic Universities. During the more than 20 years of work it’s possible and as well necessary to have one analytical look to the regional specialties of this universities in comparison with the societal and religious characteristics of the countries they are working in. In the first section I describe the societal and religious context of five countries were catholic universities work. In the second section I examine the main preconceptions and challenges for this kind of universities. And in the last section I try to elaborate the core points of they mission appropriate for the regional culture today.
